"First build a sauna, then a house", says the Finnish folk wisdom. In fact, in Finland, the sauna is part of the culture and national tradition.

What is a Finnish sauna?
The classic Finnish sauna originated about 2000 years ago. The facility was not only intended for performing hygiene measures, but also for communicating with friends, colleagues and relatives. The ancestors of the classic Finnish sauna were Russian and Irish saunas. The Finns led a nomadic lifestyle for a long time and borrowed useful skills and knowledge from other peoples. For a long time, the sauna was mobile and looked like a tent. It was installed next to a lake or river. The role of the stove was played by a fire lit inside. Later, the tent became a stationary building, a wooden house.
The classic Finnish sauna is somewhat reminiscent of a Russian banya. This is a small wooden house on the shore of a lake or river. A wooden bathhouse is built. Only coniferous trees are used, only their hind parts. This provides the right microclimate and prevents the release of resin from the wood. Spruce and pine are preferred. Recently, however, alder and lime have appeared. The entire interior of the sauna (benches, tubs, shelves) are made of hardwood. Such wood has a low thermal conductivity. This helps to protect visitors from unpleasant burns. An open heater is used as a stove. The stones are outside, it heats the room evenly. At the same time, the humidity does not exceed the permissible limits.
The Finnish sauna is less humid. This makes it possible to spend more time in the sauna room. Easier to tolerate for older people and children.
